WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called for Microsoft to immediately dismiss its President of Global Affairs, Lisa Monaco, labeling the former top government official a serious threat to national security. The demand, issued via the Truth Social platform on Friday, September 26, escalates the political scrutiny on the tech giant, which holds extensive contracts with the federal government.
Monaco, who previously served as the Deputy Attorney General under the Joe Biden administration and as a Homeland Security Advisor in the Obama White House, joined Microsoft in July to head its global affairs division.
In his post, President Trump linked Monaco’s role directly to the company’s substantial business with Washington.
“She is a threat to U.S. National Security, especially given the huge contracts Microsoft has with the United States Government,” Trump wrote.
The President went on to claim that Monaco’s security privileges had been revoked by the government due to alleged misconduct. “Because of Monaco’s many wrongdoings, the U.S. Government recently revoked all of her Security Clearances, removed all of her access to National Security Intelligence, and banned her from all Federal Properties,” the post alleged.
Microsoft, a key provider of cloud infrastructure and productivity software used across various U.S. agencies—including a recent agreement to provide $3.1 billion in savings for cloud services—has thus far declined to comment on the President’s assertion.
Trump’s demand comes amidst increasing political attention on the technology sector. Earlier this month, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella attended a dinner with other tech executives at the White House. Separately, the company recently announced it would halt cloud storage and AI subscriptions for a unit of the Israeli military following an investigation into claims that the division had developed a system to track Palestinian phone calls.
